Where it all began – by Kylie Jegou
I remember growing up, Brad would always get himself into some kind of trouble, whether it was coming off his bike, getting himself electrocuted or trying to create flight by skateboarding off a retaining walls and jumping off the odd roof. If trying to kill himself wasn’t enough, he was always pulling things apart to see how they worked (just ask our mum and her MixMaster), but unfortunately for me, it was usually my toys that received the wrath of his insatiable curiosity. Childhood seemed to be filled with endless days of our mother chasing Brad around the yard with a wooden spoon. And let’s face it, a good portion of the time he deserved it.
As I mentioned in my Article on the Scott Family History, Brad and I grew up in a haunted house. Even if a child’s imagination were to run wild, events at 80 Wood Street were something else entirely. Amazingly I, myself was never afraid of the dark. I accepted the childhood goings-on as to be normal, after all I didn’t know any better. Brad on the other hand was a little older than me and having memory of our first house in Ipswich knew that something was very wrong. I will never know for sure, but I believe it was my brother’s unease when night fell which made him determined to understand it. As children, Brad would regularly wake me up during the middle of the night, armed with a torch to investigate.
When we became teenagers, on a late Thursday night instead of going to our local shopping mall (where we told our parents we would be), Brad would drag his rather reluctant sister to the cemetery nearby. Later, he would entrust a handful of his mates on these expeditions. There were a couple of instances, Brad, myself and a handful of these friends would break into old abandoned houses, not to cause any harm to the residence, but more to investigate ghost stories.
Brad as he got a little older for a while mostly forgot his pursuit of the paranormal. After all, he was now married and working full time, it was time to grow up. But…just when he thought he had left that all behind him, Brad had something strange happen to him which changed his life forever. This event re-awoke something in him and it was then he decided to take this all seriously and thus, began his research into the science behind paranormal activity.
With his mind trained like an Engineer, he would try and find practical reasons to explain a handful of these occurrences. As for me, well my group on the other hand, did things differently, and we went our separate ways. Over time Brad purchased some very basic, but trustworthy equipment and actively sought out haunted locations…and that’s when Brad Scott the Ghost Hunter was born.
