The Science
Proving or disproving the existence of ghosts is probably an impossible task. We can however test specific hypotheses using scientific methods. On this site we endeavor to design experiments that can demonstrate the validity of current theories including those from skeptics. The questions we will investigate include.
1. Electronic voice phenomena (EVP): Is the source of the EVP at the point of the recording device, within the immediate area of the recorder or at a distance? We will test theories that EVPs are radio frequency (RF) interferences and whether white noise or any noise is necessary for paranormal transduction.
2. Electromagnetic field (EMF): The common criticism with EMF meters is their inability to distinguish frequencies. A number of handheld devices have been released that enable spectrum analysis. This should better rule out man made or natural EMFs and allow characterisation of unexplained readings.
3. Cold spots: This is probably the most encountered observation in paranormal investigations. A temperature probe array will be able to trace movement of cold spots. Coupled with anemometers we can distinguish cold spot movement from natural drafts.
The most important point of scientific methodology is to keep questions simple and specific. The answers we obtain will no doubt create new theories which can be tested and thus increase our knowledge of the unknown. We will publish any findings on this site. Also any input from the scientific community would be appreciated. Feel free to add any comments by going to the contacts page.
